Cardiology
When a dog or cat presents with symptoms of heart disease (e.g. murmur, coughing, exercise intolerance, weakness, collapse, distended abdomen), we often begin our evaluation with a chest radiograph. Radiographs provide us with an overall assessment of heart size and shape and health of the lungs. We are able to visualize cardiac enlargement, tumors, and fluid accumulation in the lungs secondary to heart failure.
We also offer electrocardiograms (ECG or EKG) to measure the electrical activity of the heart. The ECG is used to diagnose abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias).
If your pet requires additional diagnostics for heart disease, we will be happy to refer you to a local board certified veterinary cardiologist for further workup.
