EAR DISEASE AND DEEP EAR CLEANING
It is important to understand that otitis (inflammation of the ear) is only a symptom. Ear disease in both dogs and cats is definitely painful and should be addressed as soon as the pet is showing signs. Rubbing the face, shaking the head, scratching the ears, exhibiting a bad odor are some of the ways your pet may show that he/she has otitis. Successful treatment will depend on the ability to clean the ears affectively and visualize the entire ear canal and tympanic membrane (ear drum).
We are proud to be able to offer the latest, state of the art technology used to diagnose and treat ear disease in dogs and cats. Since January 2007, we have been using rigid endoscopy. The endoscope provides video otoscopy capabilities as well as an ear irrigation/flushing system. We can also remove foreign bodies, perform biopsies and collect digital photographs/video during cleaning procedures. Patients need to be under general anesthesia during such procedures. Most of our exam rooms have the viewing screens used for this videoscope so our clients can now see what the doctor could only describe with traditional, handheld otoscopes! Even if your dog is not showing clinical signs, feel free to ask for the routine videoscope ear exam next time you visit us.
We’ll be happy to show you the inside of your pet’s ears!!
